Problem with Apple Pay Express and Standard shipping?

I just had to cancel an order because I selected Standard shipping and then tapped on Apple Pay Express Checkout up top. While I was holding my finger on the home button to authorize, the amount jumped down a few dollars. Sure enough, on the confirmation page the shipping had reverted to Saver — which will get to me after my daughter leaves for college — so I had to redo the order. iPad 2021 with iPadOS 18.1.1.
