-The WLAN and Modem are left on the mother board in the installing motherboard guide and are clearly visible in step 18 of [http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+Dell+Inspiron+E1705+Motherboard/4144/3|THIS] guide. Clearly they do need to come off if installing a mew motherboard however they dont need to be removed first to remove it evidently.
