iFixit gave the essential phone a break for using standardized JIS / Phillips screws. Being able to open up a consumer device without the need for proprietary impossible-to-find screwdrivers is a major bonus in making devices repairable. That's their reasoning for giving it a 1/10, which is more than justifiable.

iFixit was one of the major driving forces in criticizing the use of pentalobe screws, a tamper-resistant screw that apple started using around 2009, and helped bring pentalobe screwdrivers to market when no one else sold them. Being able to open up a phone with an off the shelf screw driver greatly increases the chance of repair for a broken device.
