Why is my new guide missing steps?

The whole "cleanup flags" thing is a bit opaque, but I think I've figured most of it out. It looks like iFixit staff went and tagged many guides with this flag, and the intent is for them to go back and remove that flag once they've noticed that the guide has been cleaned up. (As far as I can tell, us mere mortals can't remove these tags or even see them in the Edit view.)

So ... how did my new guide already get a "Missing Steps" flag? I don't even see a place where it could have been added, but it seems to have been picked up when I added the prerequisite guides.

I have a different phantom flag on another guide -- it has the "In Progress" flag, yet when I go to edit it, it doesn't show up for me to delete! Am I missing something obvious here?

You were spot on with your assessment of why we have flags in place on guides, with the exception that anyone can clean a guide up to improve it since all of the guides are wikis. You are also correct that normal users can't add or remove the vast majority of available flags, only admins can.

You were also spot on with your deduction that you gained the Missing Steps flag from one of the prerequisite guides. This Outer Case guide that you correctly used as the second prerequisite in your Drive Board Fuses guide has the Missing Steps flag on it, and thus your guide has the same flag since those steps are now to be used in your guide. Once the Missing Steps flag is removed from the outer case guide, it should immediately be removed from your guide as well.

The phantom In Progress flag you're seeing is the same story - you've picked it up from the Lower Case Assembly guide that you correctly used as a prerequisite. Because that series of steps is still in progress, your guide is marked as being in progress as well, despite you removing the In Progress flag from your Battery Board guide.

Hopefully this all makes a bit more sense now. Keep up the great guides!

Thanks, and thanks! :) Actually, it turns out one of the big sources of confusion was that I was using the *wrong* "Installing Nintendo Wii Outer Case" guide (there are two with the same name) -- so now it should be set. Cheers!
