iPhone 8/X pre-teardown discussion

I know many here are apple fans, but these new iPhones are going to be the worst yet I'm terms of repairability.

Glass back. Might be pretty and allow you to be more lazy (Qi), but when it breaks you won't like it so much.

The X's all glass front will crack bad. Replacement will be quite hard.

Obviously the teardown will reveal it all, but some initial thoughts would be nice.

Who knows — maybe it will break more but be easy to fix!

by

It will have the new clap on - clap off feature: The Clapper!

by

@danj It's the predecessor to siri.

@kyle, perhaps. Those new screen replacement machines @mayer was talking about may mean easier to come off screens.

by

I'm more interesed in the price of the screen. For the opening we will get used to it like on the 7 or 7 plus

We have to have the answer to this: iPhone 8 repair and Apple Horizon machine

The Horizon machine will have to be knocked off or we are out of the iPhone repair business.

@theimedic are trying to find solutions but @kyle is our best bet for sources in China even if it has to be done on the QT.

Sad to say it looks line Apple sent MacRumors & ExtremeTech take down orders as both your links are dead. Only the 9to5mac is still alive.

by

Looks like Apple is going to try everything to hide this @danj @evan @pccheese can you grab what info is still available, I'm covered up today

by

@mayer here's an archive.is link of the 9to5mac link.

by

I'm just going to link all websites with a decent write up.

Extreme tech link: https://www.extremetech.com/mobile/25056...

AppleInsider: http://appleinsider.com/articles/17/06/0...

Business Insider (video):

http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-hor...

BGR:

http://bgr.com/2017/06/07/apple-iphone-s...

And other Google results.

I think there's some way we could utilize these machines to our advantage. Especially the touch ID part. But knowing apple they'll probably brick the things before we could get our hands on them.

Anyway, there's got to be someway we could bust them. Likely in the design and patents. Perhaps they've even violated someone else's patent.

by

We're talking about China, @pccheese. China doesn't care about obeying the law and will gladly make a knockoff of anything that will make them money.

China WILL reverse engineer this machine and release a knockoff. It's a matter of time.

Honestly I don't think the 8 will need the horizon machine. The X definitely will. See what the Dredd Pirate iMedic can come up with. Maybe a little wet work. And keep my name off the main site Uncle @mayer! I'm the one in the fire! Stop making me site able! My local colleague is coming back from the conference, and we're gonna work on this. Heard someone else already did it. Maybe the ground work is already done?? Also we're talking about constructing a test to prove how aftermarket chargers are destroying phones. And how to weed them out. Also more uber nerd stuff. Why I'm not on here much. Also drywall...the bane of my existence now..so much drywall..I hate you drywall..I hate you..
