Need warning across all of the battery kits using too much solvent

It looks like people are thinking more is better! When using the solvent.

It appears the solvent can drip down into the keyboard and damage the keycaps just enough to cause them to warp.

Hey Dan,

We've definitely heard from one or two folks who used way too much, and it's unfortunate because we've tried to make it clear that less is more when it comes to the solvent. For every guide where it's used, the instructions say:

  • Fill the syringe included in your kit with a small amount (approximately 1-2 milliliters) of adhesive remover.
  • It's best to fill the syringe with no more than about 1-2 milliliters of adhesive remover at a time, so as to avoid accidentally applying too much.

We've also sprinkled reminders throughout the instructions, and included a warning in the introduction that the solvent can damage certain components if you get it in the wrong place.

As always, we're keenly interested in improving—the procedure tested well with these amounts, but they can certainly be reduced. Of course, there will always be folks who ignore the instructions and do their own thing.

@jeffsu - Can we put a Red box warning stating excessive solvent can damage the keyboard if to much is used at the top?

I guess it depends on how widespread the problem is. If it's happened to a handful of people who ignored the instructions, I'm not sure adding more warnings would help. And if it's happening a lot, we may need to reevaluate and modify the procedure.

@jeffsu nothing wrong with your procedure. The way we resolved this issue to avoid accidentally overdosing people, is by using smaller syringes. Just change your 10ml syringe to either a 1ml or 3ml syringe.
