Question description has been changed to spam

Hi,

Just noticed that this question has had its' question description altered from the original to spam and an answer, more like a spamswer, to the "new" description has been provided by this user

The title of the question is still the same but the question description has been altered

My original answer now seems only to have a bearing to the question title and not to the question description.

Something is amiss

@jayeff I thought that was weird. I checked the history on this question and you are of course right. The original question was deleted and replaced by what definitely looks like spam. I do not have the powers to see who did the edit on the question. We have to keep our eyes open for that type of spam method. Deleted the spam/spammer and restored original question.

I do have to admit that this was pretty smart......

Hi @oldturkey03 ,

Thanks for that.

I agree clever, but why not alter the question title as well? Perhaps not to be so easily detected as people might search on the title description and then get all the spam instead when they "find" the question.

Cheers

I wonder if one changes the title, will it display who did the edit? Thanks for finding it!

Hi @oldturkey03 ,

It may have to be "escalated"to TWMBO so that something can be put in place to prevent this from occurring.

Cheers.

This person was clever. Not having enough rep to edit someone else's question they made there own seem harmless and even ignorant to escape the claws of iRobot and the mods, then went back later to edit into spam. The original and spam version where written by the same person, as you can see in the version history:

Elementary, my dear Watson!

Also, their profile pic looks a bit like stock imagery. And it's in a car, similar to the content of the spam.

@pccheese not convinced of this. Look at the date of edit. The OP joined 4 month ago and that is when the question was posted. There are no further question or anything else from the OP. Spammers would not do a one time hit and run. Let's continue to monitor and see what pops up.

@oldturkey03 this could be case of a stolen password.

Google image search the profile pic:

Look under "pages that include matching images".

Hi @pccheese ,

What you may have missed is the fact that this is the user who spamswered an answer to the edited question, that was in a similar vein to the edited question. This answer has been removed by OT03 when he restored the original question description, so you wouldn't have been able to see the correlation between the two.

Cheers.

@jayeff Oh okay. Was the subject matter of the spamswer the same as the the question? It could have just been chance that someone wrote a spam answer to that question.

The Google image search also confirms that their' profile picture is stock imagery. It is on multiple websites, even stock image websites.

Hi @pccheese ,

Yes.

The "answer" was just a continuation of what was written in the edited question. Nearly the same length.

It was like someone had an article on the subject and split it into two parts. First part was put into the edited "question description" area and second part posted as an "answer"
