Guide feedback needed; Model 1697 magnet fix

https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Xbox+One+Wi...

This controller I am using has been mine for 17 months and the tape on the magnets are beginning to fail. Even though this controller is probably old enough I got a good amount of time out of it, I'd rather send it off knowing I got as much life as I could out of it. It is now the oldest controller I own in terms of what model it is. Yes, this fix can be used on the 1537, since the design is the same for the frame, with the exception of a headphone jack cutout and redesigned secondary PCB.

If anyone has any feedback on what I can improve, I will look into implementing it and making changes to this guide. I have not fixed my other trigger yet, since I want to preserve this on the off chance I need to take new pictures. If my pictures are good, I might as well do the other one off camera since I only need to show one to give readers an idea of how to do the repair.

Why the 1708 controllers are immune to this and do not need this guide

(Yes, that's burn damage to the frame.)

These use a clip instead of heatshrink tubing and double sided tape, so they aren't prone to the problem like the 1537/1697 are.

Update 2/16/18

The following changes have been made:

  • Step 1 has been revised
  • Steps 4, 5, 6 and 7 have new pictures

Update 2/17/18

  • Step 1 has new pictures
  • Step 1 has been revised
  • Step 2 has new pictures

Update 3/5/18

I have changed the majority of the steps in the guide, and pretty much rewrote it. I have not changed the pictures since the last update.

I skimmed through it, and the main thing I noticed is you may need more lighting.

I used a lightbox someone else bought in the hopes that it would curb the flash issue for this. Shoot :(.

Which step are you referring to, or is it in reference to the entire guide?

Yes the whole guide.

Ifixit has a great guide for lighting and whatnot.

Here's the setup I typically use:

I changed the pictures out on 4, 5, 6 and 7. Is there any improvement? I adjusted the brightness on my camera to get a better amount of light to work with.

1, 2 and 3 are still using the old pictures since the controller is apart.

yes. step 5 pic 1 and step 6 pic 2 are probably what your aiming for. but It's much better than before.
