When I try to patrol a guide on iFixit I get a message saying Insufficient privileges how would I know if I could patrol it or not? Is there a way to check?
From how I understand it iFixit and EDU guides are pretty much dead end and will always go to Patrol.
User guides vary based on multiple factors. Many of these retain the default 500 threshold, so these are rarely impossible to patrol for most people to patrol if they've been here long enough to get to that point. You don't have 500 rep at the time I am writing this answer so Patrol isn't something you can do much with right now. Keep at it and you'll be able to patrol most user guide edits.
I'd stay out of Patrol for now and focus on building up reputation so you can patrol some of the edits that show up there.
However, having 500+ reputation isn't a guarantee you will be able to patrol all user created guides. Authors can increase the threshold past 500 (and I do this with my guides, btw) so some are going to be an issue for quite some time. You're more or less limited to your current reputation when it comes to setting this too so that means high reputation authors have a lot more discretion available when it comes to how high they want it to be before an edit gets approved automatically.
For example, if I wanted to change the reputation to the highest possible level I can set it to 38,817 at the time I write this answer.

thanks for your response as of now I'm about 50rep away from 500 rep so I guess I'm almost there the only reason I was to ask is because someone with like 100 rep patroled a thing I did so I'm like wth

They can make it fair game for everyone to do it by reducing it to the lowest possible level. Very few do.

As of now i have 1,000 reputation and check to see how much rep you need to patrol a guide but still im not able to? Am i doing something wrong?
