iFixit replacement part quality issue

I just replaced the display on my iPhone 7 with a full display assembly part I ordered from iFixit. I replaced probably a dozen phone and tablet displays using parts from iFixit and had no issues so far, so I’ve trusted their quality and compatibility. However this display piece is displaying some issue that make me think its ether defective or of extremely subpar quality.

The display appears tinted slightly blue. I’ve compared to other unmodified phones and the display tone is definitely off. The difference is noticeable enough that it’s visually jarring when using the phone.

The second and much bigger issue is that the display digitizer appears to be malfunctioning. The multi-touch accuracy is bad and the screen skips around sometimes while scrolling. It catches stray inputs from fingers holding the phone by the edges. I’ve noticed that if skin oil is collected on the screen, it sometimes registers stray inputs from that area randomly. Because the digitizer is so poorly calibrated, it can be difficult to use and type properly.

I’m very confident that I performed the installation correctly. I’m a former certified tech from an AASP and I use static safe procedure when I repair personal devices. In regard to the stray touch inputs, the seams on my phone after replacement are definitely just as tight as they originally were. I replaced the gasket and seated it perfectly. I don’t see how the color issue or the general multitouch inaccuracy could come from an installation error. It’s not as if a whole color channel is missing, it’s just slightly off so I’m confident the connectors are seated properly.

Has anyone else noticed similar issues after using an iFixit iPhone 7 display part? Has anyone ever had to make a claim under the iFixit parts warranty? I’m going to contact them and see if they’ll offer a replacement part.

Hey Jeremy,

You're right, getting the color balance right is really important. We test for both of those issues here in the US. But despite our precautions, it sounds like you got a bad part! I'll have our support team get in touch, or if you want to expedite things send your order number to support@ifixit.com.

Thanks!
