so my samsung s5 had cracks in the screen and i bought a new screen with the lcd, it got working again but i went to go turn it back on and the screen went black but everything else still works.

That type of LCD is extremely easy to crack. Once cracked (not necessarily broken at all) it stops giving any type of image, but the phone will work correctly.
It may be because the frame was damaged and when you press it broke the LCD, it does not clean the area well before putting the screen or the screen is defective.
