Older iPhones tear down and repairable

Do you have to remove all of these things by putting them away from disassembling and then fix them also that you're all going to reassemble for making them the right way, like the list of the iPhones about 5s, SE, 6, 6 Pus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, and X?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hey Zachariah, I'm not too sure that I'm understanding your question. Could you please rephrase it? Thanks!

I'm saying that if you still assemble iPhones right after you disassemble them, then that'll be the right way to fix. Am I right?

I think I'm getting an idea on what your question is here.

Let me restate it: During the process of doing a teardown or creating the IFIXIT guides do you put the device back together and does it work?

During the teardown's its possible the device is damaged beyond hope as there is little or no information available to know what is the correct order of disassembly was done so its possible the direction tried ends up damaging the device. In some ways going to the extra step to see deeper into the device also offers information on the designers thinking as well as gives someone repairing a deeper understanding on why that direction is not a good idea.

Often the same device used for the teardown is also used to create the guides. And depending on the cost of the system reselling the parts can recoup some of the costs.

If you are asking if leaving the device (i.e. iPhone) in loose parts for a period of time is a good idea or not. That can be tricky to answer as how you store the parts until you get the needed part to repair the device can be an issue.

Some examples:

  • Do you use ESD safe packaging for the sensitive components?
  • Do you use storage boxes which are dust proof and the parts are packaged so they are not crushed.
  • For the tiny screws and parts do you have a partitioned box so you can keep them isolated in some order so when you get back to the job the parts are in a logical order for reassembly.

Sometimes the device is used as a parts system as it was bought broken. This is often the case for specialized electronics parts which are hard to get. Keep in mind some companies don't offer discreet parts only sub assemblies and in the case of Apple only serves their authorized repair centers so independent shops need alternative ways to get the needed parts.

So the bottom line here is ideally you should start the repair with the needed parts in hand so you can complete the repair within the same session.

But in some cases you need to open the device to discover what the problem is and after the discovery you may need to order parts which may take some time. In some cases the device may require help from someone else with specialized skills like fixing a logic board. Or in the case of a liquid damaged device time for the parts to dry out after being cleaned to be reassembled and even then you still may need to order parts to replace some that got damaged which you could not do discover while the device was wet.

This is more for the OP, by the way.

Another case for a parts device (bought broken intentionally to fix another one) is the part you need is/was sold individually by the manufacturer but the part is difficult to find alone on the secondary market and the manufacturer charges too much or no longer supplies it. While the part is typically hard to find individually, parts systems often include it. In this case, it's typically better to buy a parts system.

I did this with my HP IQ506 before I found out the screen was bad - I acquired one with a LCD TAB failure but had the stand (and screws) I needed. The stand is difficult to find AND expensive if you find it, and often doesn't include screws and I needed both. I needed both, so I got a parts machine with the stand. I usually keep the system intact since I probably only needed 1 or 2 parts and it makes storage easier.
