iFixit Replacement battery dead on arrival?

Ordered a replacement battery/self replace kit for late 2012 macbook pro retina, after installation (fiddly but not to bad) new battery seems stuck 69/70% full (went from 69% to 70% after 5 hours of charging) and laptop will not stay on without mains power. Is new battery dead on arrival? I've tried reseting the SMC, no change.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Did you calibrate it? "Calibrate your new battery before using it: allow it to drain overnight, then charge it to 100% and drain it again until your MacBook Pro shuts down automatically. Charge it again and use it normally."

if that still does not work, give support a call. as long as you did not use your battery incorrectly (for example, playing baseball with it) you should be covered.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately the laptop will not run without mains power i.e. it turns of the moment you pull the Maglock connector so it isn't possible to calibrate it.

I'll ping iFixit support.

Thanks.
