iPhone 5 LCD Assembly Colour Quality (item from iFixit on-line store)

Trying to change my third or fourth screen on my third iPhone 5, most of the previous ones worn off over the years for the centre purple problem.

Have been looking on eBay, Amazon, and elsewhere for a good LCD assembly (digitiser and sensors) with proper colour quality, yet never found any correct ones. Many are either with colder colour tone, uneven brightness, show liquid wrinkles when slightly pressured, or dead pixels, etc. Therefore just wondering how is the one being sold on here?

Certainly it is not possible to obtain an original Apple manufactured screen, but is the one being sold here also just another “OEM” screen (OEM is not guaranteed to be same specs with original genuine) or it does have proper quality (in regards to aforementioned possible problems)?

If any available photographs with side-by-side comparison to original screen, would really be appreciated! Thank you!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi @nanjingk010,

iFixit US sells two types of iPhone displays:

The first type, designated as “Choice” in our store, is a display with an OEM LCD. While the LCD is made by one of Apple’s OEMs, the small parts and connectors are aftermarket, so this display is officially called a “hybrid” display.

The second type, which is the standard option in our store, is an aftermarket display. It is made to the same specifications as an OEM LCD, but was manufactured by a third party, not by an Apple OEM.

iFixit offers a lifetime warranty on both types of displays. Additionally, both options go through the exact same quality control process. The return/defect rate is very similar across both types of display. We are confident that both options are a very high quality, which is why we're willing to offer a lifetime warranty.

Hi,

Thanks for your answer. However, the it is a little confusing, for the only option for iPhone 5 LCD display assembly that I found on the web page of your store is the below link, which neither lists two types for the item nor indicates the type of this particular listing.

And if I ordered and it turned out to be unsatisfactory, would I be able to return it for full refund (and what about shipping responsibilities on both shipping trips)?

Thanks.

@nanjingk010 You're correct, we currently do not offer a Choice option screen for the iPhone 5, only the standard option is available.

@blakeklein Thank you very much for the clarification. Just a follow-up: so as far as colour tone, brightness, contrast ratio, etc., should I expect the current option to be the same as the genuine original screen on an iPhone 5, or is there some tolerance of variations on those aspects allowed when the screen was tested and listed? I am just a little bit worried about spending five times of money than on eBay to still get something that is similarly not good. (No offence.) Thanks.

These are great questions. Literally every iPhone screen we sell is tested by hand specifically for us. We don't just take our supplier's word for it. We make sure they meet our specs by running them though an entirely different testing process separate from our supplier's.

We stand behind what we sell. If you have any problems with an iFixit part, our Support Team will always be happy to remedy the situation.
