iFixit Battery Swelling. Installed January 2018.

Evening everyone,

Yesterday and today I have been having problems with my phone holding a charge, acting slow, and randomly shutting off and not being able to reboot properly. When it shuts off at random it will cycle on and off until there isn’t any battery left. I didn’t think anything of it until I notice my battery was swelling.

Is there a policy for replacement through iFixit? I see there is a 1 year policy. I don’t want my phone to break because of the swelling. Is there anyway to get a battery replaced today or tomorrow and being able to get a refund for the part from iFixit?

I have this same problem with the same battery (iPhone 6) purchased during the same time frame (January 2018). Very concerning.

I personally would contact iFixit customer support over at help.ifixit.com and ask for a refund. The warranty should still be valid for you. Dispose your swelling battery immediately to your local hazardous waste facility because swelling batteries are DANGEROUS!

Do not discard your battery. Remove the battery from the terminal for safety, but DO NOT recycle the battery without consulting with iFixit, you must return it if you accept the change.

@oscarsp I didn't say throw it in the trashcan at your house I said take it to a hazardous waste facility and dispose of it there.

by

@ajcooke01 That is not the important thing here. Is the battery recycled / discarded, how does iFixit change it? Trusting his word? To use a warranty you need to have the defective item.

by

@oscarsp You would rather have a battery explode in the OP’s possession? I find that odd because the OP could just take pictures of the swelling battery and dispose of it then.

by

@ajcooke01 But you must not be the one to tell him that. If you discard it before consulting with ifixit and then you do not make a refund for disabling yourself from the battery, will you compensate your OP? A swollen battery is dangerous, but it is not a pump. You can leave it out of the house if you want or in a metal bucket, but iFixit must decide what to do with it, not us.
