What Is This Thing?

Hi all,

I figure the iFixit forum is the best place to ask about something with the name on it. Anybody know what this device is? I discovered it in our IT department storage a few weeks back and nobody I work with has any clue where it came from or what it does. Based on the back, it looks like it’s just an iFixit branded portable charger, but when I plugged it into a USB power source, it did nothing. Same result when I left it to charge over night. There’s one micro USB in and two USB type A out. Any help would be appreciated, I can’t seem to find anything on Google and reverse image searches turned up results for “ifixit” and “electronics”… not very helpful.

What happens if you connect it like you are charging it and connect a device to one of the outputs? does it display a number?

It seems to pass through current, when it's plugged into power it will charge my phone but nothing comes up on the display, even after the button is pressed. As soon as you unplug the power going to it, it stops charging the phone.

You guys pretty much figured it out already, but just to make it official: Yes, this was a limited run, iFixit-branded portable battery pack from several years ago. I don’t know for sure why it was discontinued, but I can tell you that I also have one—and while it still sort of works, the display on mine is broken as well. :p

have you tried to look in the iFixit store to locate the device nomenclature?

I did. Unfortunately I found nothing. Makes me wonder if this was a limited run item that is no longer available/in the store? There's no serial or model number, so I'm having a hard time even searching for it.

It appears to be some type of multi charging device. It has an electrical input as well as output via USB. Might be to power devices that need USB slots

That was my thought too, I was just trying to figure out why it has a display on it and why I can't seem to find any trace of its existence on the internet.
