Why is shipping from ifixit so expensive?

Guys, you are killing your own store, you buy ifixit parts from amazon, you can get it shipped home reliably, in a day or two, at most $6 for shipping (free for primer etc.), on your own site the shipping is exhorbitant.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi Ravi,

We do not profit on our shipping charges. In many cases, we actually take a loss. And we are actively working toward better, cheaper, and faster shipping methods. (We’re actually rolling out some free shipping incentives later this week!)

You may find cheaper replacement parts elsewhere on the internet. But you’ll compromise in quality to shave off a few bucks in shipping fees. We choose to value quality and reliability over the cheapest option on the internet. And, rather than killing us, it’s earned us solid reputation with DIY fixers and professionals alike.

Happy Fixing!

Do you really believe there are free lunches or free shipping?

These unfair trade practices by Amazon may soon cease. Small brick and mortar companies have to pay actual postal costs while massive businesses like Amazon get sweet heart deals because they can afford lobbyists in Washington.

China, of course subsides shipping to gain an unfair trade advantage.

BTW - My international repair business is killed because it costs me $50 to ship back a MacBook to Asia. While I can order a new one out of China and pay no shipping.

You can get better rates if you go spend $14.000.000 for lobbying in Washington like Amazon did last year. Your question should be, “just who is getting this graft money?”

Yep... I can buy a hard drive enclosure to convert a Fat 360 hard drive into an S drive for $2 from China and have it in 2 weeks or so (not that I need it right away) vs $5 average from the US sellers. The problem is a part like that is almost always sold directly from China.

It depends - if you don't need it right away I'd go with China (knowing they get a deal with the ePacket) but if I needed it soon I'd go with the US.
