How to format post for iFixIt Answers forum?
Working in MacOS 10.12 Sierra, I compose content in TextEdit for posting at iFixIt Answers. When I copy the text:
And paste it in the “Question Description” field, I get:
The forum software adds extra space after each return, and a huge amount of space between paragraphs (where I have simply pressed <return> twice to make a blank line). Actually, I get this result in a number of forums, including Apple Discussions – which seems kind of nuts, given that I'm using Apple's own software. So I figured out how to correct it, by making a plain text file of the content, then copying and pasting that.
But when I do that, I still get this in the iFixIt forum:
Now it's placed the same amount of space after the first paragraph (where I put two <return>s to make a space between it and the next) as after each of the three lines of what I intend to be the second paragraph (three lines, a single <return> after each). So it looks like four paragraphs rather than two, not what I intend.
So I try replacing <return> with <shift-return> after the lines I want to put close together, without space between, and I get:
Which is okay, but when I Preview the post, it reformats it to add space between each line:
So once again there are four paragraphs instead of the two I intend.
Is there any way to format the post so as to look like example #1 above?
And by the way, how can I prevent the screen shots being made so small? The originals of these are much larger than how they appear here.
Is this a good question?
Hey HandyMac! I'll look into this, and let you know what I find. Thanks for your patience!
