A guide from the cloning days that needs to die or get archived

https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/How+to+Clon...

This guide is from when cloning was okay. Now that the old OSes that are clone safe are more or less obsolete and anything remotely modern is NOT safe to clone, this guide needs to be archived at the bare minimum.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! For as long as there is a single piece of equipment out there that could potentially benefit from this, it needs to stay exactly where it’s at.

Macs from 2011-present are not safe to clone since they have a recovery partition and internet recovery (not to mention internet recovery negates the need for cloning if you have a backup, and it doesn't create problems). The same applies to pre internet recovery systems with a recovery partition as well.

If you clone these systems you tend to do more harm then good. There's a lot of owners of these that get it but if they don't understand it creates issues with the recovery partition, they may clone a system that isn't fit for it.

@nick that is no reason to retire a guide! Do you think that nobody is using Macs earlier than 2011? I did not know that we now retire guides because of aging equipment!!!

Why don't you just go ahead and put a proper disclaimer on this guide?

I've added the warning about these recovery partition and internet recovery Macs.

I just felt it was better to retire it. The problem is it's bad when they find out the hard way, since the only time it comes to light is when the OS needs to be reloaded if damaged beyond repair.
