iFixit Meetup?

I know this may be hard to organize but hows the idea of a meetup of all of us somewhere? Since the majority of us are in the US I guess it'll be better if its held here (Sorry Markus :P)

Looks like the iFixit folks all go to MacWorld.

Las Vegas is always a good place to meet and the rooms are cheap as well as the air fare and there are other things to do besides looking at Kyle chomp a cigar ;-) Traveling 1500 miles to San Francisco just to say hi to the iFixit folk is not really something most of us would do. Maybe there's a convention of interest to all of us there? Besides Kyle could probably get us a group rate.

The idea of a meet up is good but very unrealistic if we're talking being at a physical place, it's just not going to happen for more than a couple of us. But thankfully we live in a computer age where a virtual meet up is not only practical but easily do able. Hence my icon change. A Saturday night meeting where Polly in the UK and Markus and remac in Germany could do it for breakfast and our east coast people not to late in the evening could be there. Major corporations do it as a matter of course. We could try it a couple of times on different days and see what the participation is like. Then maybe try it once or twice a month. Pod cast it. Opinions?

That sounds like a very doable and realistic option.

I would recommend using FaceTime, I've tried it and the quality seems better than Skype. Here's where to get it: http://www.apple.com/mac/facetime/

I was just looking FaceTime over and don't see where conferencing is mentioned. We may have to use Skype.

I think that's a great idea! We did have a little meetup at Macworld last month, and about 50 people showed up. Two cool repair groups that meet regularly is the Fix It Clinic in Oakland (left coast) and the Fixer's Collective in New York City (right coast). Not much in between yet, but maybe we should change that.

I also broadcast the conferences I go to on twitter @kwiens, and I've met up with a number of folks in the past including rdklninc (who by the way is an awesome guy).

The next three places I'll be is New Delhi (2/16-2/22) for EFY Expo, Austin, TX (3/11-3/14) for SXSW, and Urbana, Illinois (3/23-3/24) for a sustainable electronics symposium. If people are interested, I'd love to do a meetup during any of those trips.

Kyle I wonder if you could post your travel schedule once a quarter so that members in those areas can make arrangements to meet and greet. The same deal could apply to other members of your staff who travel. Just a thought.

Good idea! I'll see what I can do.

Also, a large majority of iFixit goes to Maker Faire in San Mateo, CA in late May 21st-22nd. We run a large booth there, and rely on volunteer help to run various activities.

Maker Faire is also just a really fun place to go to anyways.

Why is it all in the west coast ._.

by

If only they hadn't canceled Macworld Boston! We used to go, and absolutely loved it. Where on the east coast should we have a meetup?

by

Well I'm in New York City but Boston is a good place... Not sure what kind of conventions happen though. The only relevant meetup is the entadget reader meetup that they have every now and then in Manhattan.

by

What about Maker Faire new york?

by

I almost went last time
