How do I specify a device?

How can I specify a device which it is not available in the ‘Find Device’ list? I.e. can I somehow add my device to that list?

Update (10/04/2019)

To explain the query further I should say that I was trying to post my first question on the forum but, when I asked for a preview, it required me to specify the device and I wasn’t able to do this, only finding a list of other Samsung devices.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I have now found that I can select Samsung generically from the 'Find Device' lists but haven't been able to specify the model

@espri let me try to shed some light on this.

To post a question start with step 1. by formulating a strong title. Try to be short be descriptive. It’s the “eye catcher” to get people to read your question.

Step 2 is the description so let people know what the problem is, how long it has been going on, anything that may have brought the problem on, what you have checked etc. The more detail you add the greater your chance of getting a good answer

Step 3 is the device your question belongs to. Yours of course would be a Samsung LE37B651T3P 37" LED TV

This is the window that pops open when you click the hit the “Find a Device” tab

Now you can type “Television” in the search bar as shown in step 1. This will automatically show in step 2. Step 3 allows you to select the maker for your device. In your case it would be Samsung. That will now open the next column showing already listed models for Samsung. Should your model not be on it, you can just click on the choose device with “Samsung” still highlighted. That will then accept your device as a Samsung Television. The importance here is that you must add your model number in the body of the questions description. Otherwise nobody will know the specifics of your TV.

The other thing you can do is as follows. It is not as neat but way simpler. After you formulate your question and click the “Choose a Device” tab,

type your make and model number into the search bar. Next click the Choose “Samsung…….” tab. That will get you to this screen

Block Image

Scroll down to either “Preview” then “Post” your question.

This is what it will look like if you stay with selecting “Samsung Television”

This is what it looks like if you add the model number in your search but cannot select the maker.

Now I hope I have not confused any more :->

@oldturkey03, many thanks for the many tips. With that help I have now mastered setting up my question (and I have even made a device entry for the Samsung LE37B651T3P TV). I still haven't been able to specify my question successfully, however, for the system still always hangs after I have inserted an image (as I reported in the other thread 'Hung in Media Manager').

@espri have your tried to formulate the question and post it without the images? Once posted try to add the image. https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Adding+imag...

Let us know if that makes a difference.

@oldturkey03 Whoopee! Posting the image separately worked perfectly. Many thanks for all your help.

@oldturkey03 Thanks for helping out with your detailed explanation! Those are some great instructions. @espri, did this solve all the issues you had here as well? Stuck in Media Manager

Hi Eric,

Thanks for your great question. For specific devices that don’t currently exist on iFixit, we suggest you choose the closest relevant category and specify the model number in your question.

I hope this helps!
