Can you add a new repair category? There is one important one missing.

Hardware repair guides are great, but there is an important category that has nowhere to go and could be really useful. Right now there are categories of replacement, disassembly, teardown, and technique. This leaves out software repairs. Having a repair category of “software repairs” will allow for more repair guides, more useful ones, and help potentially more people. Guides like this: https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/6129... (which is a software guide posted as a question on the answers forum for some reason) really, have nowhere to go.

Hi Timothy,

As Kristen mentioned, we usually use the Technique category for this type of thing: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/How+to+use+...

For the Question you mentioned, I don’t think it’s out of place as a question, especially since the author was looking for discussion and advice. The question should stick around in the index as long as it gets some engagement. But if you’re looking for a more stable/permanent home for this kind of info, try a Wiki. For example, https://www.ifixit.com/Wiki/Mac_bricked_... . You can link it from your answers in the future or from the Mac Laptop Device page ( https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Mac_Laptop ) if you want people to be able to find it.

Does that work for you, or is there some feature missing for supporting this type of repair info?

Thanks for asking and for helping us organize the site better!

Hi Timothy,

Thanks for your feedback. You can create software guides using the “Technique” category. We have technique guides for things like how to force restart a device, how to install OS, etc., so we find that software guides fit best in this category.

Hope this helps!
