Are jailbreak tutorials allowed on iFixit?

I came across a guide for jailbreaking while patrolling and while I can see how that would be a decent thing to have here, I was wondering if those types of guides are allowed, as jailbreak software isn’t something that is always 100% free of malicious software.

Hi Reed,

Great question! This is a tough one. We welcome any guide, software included, that keeps devices lasting longer. Because software changes quickly, and it’s hard to prove it’s safe, we suggest doing research to confirm whether or not the jailbreak is safe. If it’s not safe, it might be a good idea to remove it.

I hope this helps!

@reedcrosby, I updated my answer on 11/12/2020. I hope this clears things up a bit more!

@kristen The issue is they always get exposed as viruses later on when the author abandoned the guide, or they happen early and nobody addresses it because it's already been made.

It's more trouble then it's worth since the methods constantly get patched and new guides become required. Been there, done that with downgrading. Never again. The photo focus, system and monitor stand date it because I do not care!

This is dated by the photos too, but it's still useful for a lot more devices. I still wish we could get something like my old A1297 today without all of the terrible parts of the T2 rMBP (and a 17" screen) - only instead of 2.5" spinning rust or a 2.5" SATA SSD, NVMe storage. If it wasn't for the GPU cancer, I'd probably find a 17" 2011 with the AG panel again.

My problem with the weight/bulk justification for wanting the 17" to go to history is we KNEW - you basically signed a indirect contract this will not be easy to travel with.

Okay, I'll keep that in mind. It looks like the guide in question has already been removed, so maybe I was on to something here.
