iPhone 6 battery installation
I had a problem - picture enclosed
I removed the old battery from my wife's iPhone 6. I then installed new battery (this is not the first time that I've replaced batteries in iPhones), but I could not get the connector to snap into place. There is too much wire/lead to cram into the small space between the battery and part of the board that holds the battery "terminal." I did the best I could, but when I tried to turn the phone on, nothing happened. When I plugged in the phone's charger, I got an Apple logo, but it went off after about 10 seconds, then it came back on for about 10 seconds and then off again for 10 seconds etc. In other words, the phone was not recognising the battery probably because it was not making contact at its connector. I opened up the phone and tried to snap the battery lead into place. but it wouldn't seat properly. Upon closer examination, the connector on the new battery seemed thinner than on the old battery, thus it could not be pressed home - it wasn't going deep enough that it could snap into place and make a proper connection. I removed the new battery and reinstalled the old one and the phone starts up and works just fine, except I'm stuck with a battery that probably won't hold charge for more than 24 hours, even if it isn't used. But since the phone works with the old battery, it's not my installation or the phone that is faulty but the new battery. It was just lucky that I did not have to bend the old battery badly enough that it was damaged and I could reinstall it and use it. Unfortunately, the new battery's glue tabs broke instantly when I tried to remove them and I had to pry out the new battery, thus bending it quite severely, probably to the point where it is best not to try to use it (although it did not heat up so it might still be OK). I guess I'll never know...
I've enclosed a picture of the area of the new IFIXIT battery that shows the extra wire/lead/strap that has no space inside the phone as well as the thinness of the connector that doesn't allow the contacts to be pressed far enough into the phone's connector to make electrical contact.
And just in case you're wondering, I did read all of the comments on the web site, including the one about making sure that you bend the lead BEFORE trying to install the battery because trying to bend it after the battery is in place makes it difficult (impossible?) to to do so.
I'm not looking for a refund or anything, but I'd be interested in anyone’s comments.
BTW, I'd order a new battery, but if they’re all the same as this one, I won't be able to use any of them.
