excellent!

The article points out the new laws many limitations and compromises, but in modern politics that is inevitable with any ground breaking legislation. It will have been through a thousand committees in which support was exchanged for one special interest interest group concession or another.

The important thing is it is on the statute books. It is the start. It has the same weak and toothless start as all those other pieces of legislation that grew from that weak start to being laws which now shape our lives.

It also legitimises consumer objection. Until this law was passed we could complain, but we had no right to demand things were done differently. Now we, at least the French, can complain from a platform of the law being on their side.
