I'll let our parts testing team know!

@kristen - Thanks!

Hey Dan!

I talked to the parts testing team, and it doesn't look like there is a widespread issue with the shipments. Of course, the users in this post are the exception, but it looks like a small percentage overall. I'll share this with Customer Service too, to make sure those people who experienced battery issues recently are taken care of!

@kristen - Something is brewing here! Too many people posting similar issues.

@jayeff - FYI I'm suspecting iFixit battery one year old and now needs replacing. How can that be? is another one of these that took a bit longer.

Hey Dan,

I talked to our parts team and they can’t find any evidence of a specific bad batch. Overall, the number of returns on these products is pretty small, so it doesn’t appear widespread enough to cause a concern. I hope this insight helps!

@kristen - I'm not convinced ;-{

The problem is this series has a glued in battery so returns will not be often as the older Unibodies or other easier to remove battery devices.

Even still we have a group which needs a bit of TLC to calm them down.

Having them gripe like this in your Answers forum which others can also see may cool people in buying your batteries. So you need to weigh the risks.

Thank you for the vigilance as always! I know you're totally looking out for everyone here, and I appreciate that. I'm getting some more answers from our parts team, so I'll be sure to share that info with you as soon as I can.

@kristen - Replaced battery from iFixit in December, already showing Service

Could this be a battery firmware issue related to the version of MacOS?

Hi @danj ,

I know I’m new here, but @kristen and I have been talking about this issue a lot lately and we’ve spent some time asking questions around the iFixit staff to help solve this problem. First and foremost, I think that it’s important to remember that no matter where a replacement laptop battery is purchased, a 100% success rate is not possible. Thankfully, as a company we are able to stand behind our products, and while we do have a high success rate, we recognize that it’s not perfect. If there are any issues, we will always help our community members out by refunding the cost or replacing a faulty battery and offering a one year warranty beyond that.

As bad batteries do happen, we appreciate when our customer service team is informed because it helps us to buy better products. When a battery is faulty, we make note on the batch and forward that information on to our supplier so that we can prevent the problems further up the ‘food chain.’ Sometimes customers are turning to our Answers forum because they trust the advice that they receive from our 400,000+ rep club before or during their communications with Customer Service.

All in all, you’re absolutely right that batteries are a massive part of our sales. As we are moving batteries in this volume, even a small percentage of problems (which, statistically, will happen) appears to be an alarming amount. Also, we track these numbers in batteries per model so, a battery for a mid 2012 MacBook Pro will be tracked separately from a mid 2015 MacBook Pro. We see these as separate issues whereas the community just sees it as a general “iFixit has MacBook battery issues.”

Thank you for all you do in our community, you make a huge difference!

@amber - I fully understand!

The point was it only takes one person yelling fire before others start yelling it too even if they have no clue if there is a fire or not!

Thats why I raised the issue as you have two in answers yelling when they shouldn't! I would really reach out to these two and see how you can make a lemon into lemon aid!

As an example maybe get their system so you can see what they messed up or if the battery is indeed bad replace it.

I'm not suggesting you do this for everyone just these two maybe that cuts the noise! I would also make entries into Answers like you did as that goes a long way (but you need to change your avatar to an iFixit employee) to have the badge of distinction! Unlike me I don't have access to the data where I can't offer that distinction as being an iFixit employee (nor do I want it).

@danj I'm glad you're on our team! It definitely makes a big difference having others who understand where we're coming from as a business and a community.

Absolutely, I agree that a little reaching out can go a long way. I'll defiantly be popping in on more posts like that to help make as much lemonade as possible. =]

As soon as our office opens back up enough that I'm going in in-person, the first thing on my to-do list is to take a picture in front of the fancy iFixit logo wall and get my staff avatar!
