So this is Christmas

and what have you done?

I know, it’s a bit early and Thanksgiving isn’t even here yet. “Another year over” and what a year it has been. I do want us all to do some reflection of who may still be suffering and how the power of repair can help. There are so many parents, grandparents, and other caregivers of kids, that are having a tough time making ends meet this year. Prices are up, supply chains are broken and Christmas is coming. I would like to ask all of you fixers and readers, to consider to repair toys and to donate those. You may even pass them on to your own families as gifts. With all the high tech gadgets, let us not forget the much simpler things. I remember the first repair I did with and for my then 3 year old daughter. It was a mechanical dog that had a wired remote with two push buttons. Simple, and she loved that dog. One day, it stopped working and we had to “give it an operation (job related:-)” which was a success. Just a re-soldering of some loose wires fixed it. Now, here it is 22 years later, my daughter still remembers the toy and remembers us having fixed it. She does not remember when she got her first Xbox and played Guitar Hero for weeks at a time, but she remembers that dog. The power of repair is more than just fixing objects, it is about making memories and keeping them around. Yes, I am one of those dads that can’t throw anything away and I still have that toy.

Let’s browse through the Toy section https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Toy and check to see if we can help with any of this. There also seems to be a real expert with toy repairs https://www.ifixit.com/User/3500511/Oliv... and maybe we can all help creating some good memories for some kids/parents/grandparents/caregivers.

Of course, let us also consider to support Toys for Tots which is run by the USMC and all the other great causes that may go on in your communities.

For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The war is so long
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

@amber Thank you! Everything counts and it all matters. Time for most of us to rethink our ways. Like my buddy Al said "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them."(Albert Einstein).

Let's create a better place for us and those that follow us.

@oldturkey03 I remember having that exact same dog as a kid! My parents bought it for me in lieu of a real dog. I wore it down completely. Mostly because I tried to get it to do all the things a real dog does, like playing outside, eating, taking a bath (don't worry, no water involved, just harsh scrubbing with a damp towel to get rid of dirt stains). You get the picture. Point is, I never forgot it either. Thank you for sharing :)

@krisrodriguez beautiful memories are such a powerful thing. They help us to get through the toughest of times. Reminds me of something I read once in the "old country": Memories are a window through which I can see you whenever I want to. That includes our childhood and the toys that meant the world to us. Let's create some memories for those that are needing some happiness! Thanks Kris.
