Not sure what to say about this... seems very dangerous. Should this be deleted? I'm not sure what to do about this.

All done, @jayeff.

I do have to admire their tenacity. After two failed attempts at directly posting spam, they answered a question with a seemingly thoughtful answer and then tried editing in the spam link.

Hi @amber,

I have detected an act of defacement of a Wiki page :

https://fr.ifixit.com/Device/Historique/...

A user account with no activity changed the translation of this wiki page and destroyed the original good translation to replace it by fake bad content.

I think this is not a spam but it's something that is prohibited by iFixit community guide (deliberate destruction of a wiki page).

Hi @es_six, this looks like someone who's lost and typing their question into the wrong place. I'll leave this for Monday and @sandrahiller will be able to reach out to the user and point them in the right direction.

by

@amber Ok, Thanks a lot :)

Should I continue to report this kind of modification in the future ?

by

Hi @es_six, thanks for catching this up! In most cases, wiki translations land in Patrol (https://www.ifixit.com/Patrol), where admins and people with good reputation (like you) can review them, accepting the good ones and rejecting the bad ones. In cases like this (an user asks a question in a translation instead of the Forum), we reject the translation and write them an email pointing to the Forum. So in the future, as you have such a good reputation and trust in the community, you're welcome to reject the translations and keep us informed so we can reach out to the user.

by

@claire17 ,

Ok, thank you so I will continue to report this kind of modification / translation and I will reject them if needed :)

Hi @amber I found the SPAM heaven !

Here : https://fr.ifixit.com/Tutoriel/Remplacem...

Almost every comments are SPAM with links by dozens except one. There are multiple user accounts involved and I bet it's the same person who is doing that.

THIS ISN'T SPAM JUST A RECOMMENDATION FOR THE USER!!!!!

Hi

I have a user here that has their email as their name

https://www.ifixit.com/User/4179816/cana...

Like I said this isn’t spam but I wouldn’t like to see them get random emails from people over the internet

The question they wrote is quite odd. I'll try and keep an eye out to see if it's legitimate.

Not spam in nature (and yes I did push back professionally this time) but this was uncalled for. Dell sucked at getting this right where a bad QC job was enough to make this a problem when the machine is older.

The reason I chose to push back despite the risk inherent in doing so is I'm done with this nonsense where you have someone who has never seen the issue before and just defaults to saying anyone who mentions that there were known QC issues is "autistic" and doesn't immediately blame the OP.

Hi @nick, thank you for pointing out this conversation. While the comment isn't technically spam, the button is "Mark as spam/offensive" and they're being offensive.

I, 100%, support that comment being marked the way it was and I won't be re-posting it or reimbursing the -100 reputation. Disagreeing with what someone said is alright but being rude is not.

A question I have for you is if you'd be comfortable with me deleting your last comment (no rep docked) because it doesn't add to the repair itself and doesn't make sense without he context of the rude comment.

by

@amber I deleted it. The reason I pushed back is they clearly have no idea how bad some of those rubber coating Dells get and how it's almost never the users fault; it tends to be bad QC. I know Dell well enough to know with confidence that machine the OP has is within the bum range where it's due to QC issues after it gets to be older.

It's an R2, so probably Sandy Bridge. Ivy Bridge tends to be R3.

by

@nick thank you and I trust your Dell knowledge, implicitly.

And you're always welcome to push back/give your opinion. This is the internet after all. :D

by

@amber Yeah as the bad parts age we're seeing the disease ridden ones fail. Not my first run-in, won't be my last but at least people know it's due to rubber reversion failure, basically.

You might be able to get a custom vinyl skin to cover it on machines with cosmetics that rule out a new palmrest, but that's not something most people will sell for commodity hardware sadly. Maybe for an Alienware, but I doubt they'll make skins for a sticky Latitude.
