I'd like to know Ifixit's reccomendation for battery brand

I ordered note8 and note10+ battery from ifixit because y'all actually check out aftermarket batteries before offering them for sale. I'll also sometime in the future be buying a s23 ultra battery (whenever my current phone's battery craps out).

Just like the battery in the Galaxy A51 (not 5g) that I bought for mom a couple years ago has.

So: what brands does ifixit rely on for supplying batteries for devices ifixit does sell batteries for? The LAST thing I want is to get a junk battery and my mom's phone decides to spontaneously combust because of said junk battery.

Also what product is good for gluing this phone back together when I'm done changing the battery? Keeping in mind that it might need to be disassembled again before its retired.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Why exactly was this moved to what seems to be a dark hole in the forum/community?

@robertf92718 the meta forum is the place for asking questions that have to do with ifixit themselves.

Hopefully they see it now then xD

Hi @robertf92718,

Welcome to Meta! This is where non-repair or store questions go for us to see. We work with different manufacturers for different batteries so that's a really complicated question. As far as Samsung batteries go, we work directly with Samsung.

Hi @Amber & thanks for the reply :)

Any thoughts on battery for A51? (samsung galaxy a51)

The not 5g model if it happens to matter.

Pretty sure in a couple years I won't have to ask about battery for my s23u.. as note8 and note10+ were readily available from ifixit. And the note8 still works to this day. Don't know when ifixit started working directly with samsung.. but I do know ifixit knows a thing or two about batteries :)

We don't have plans to at this time. It's possible as the program expands we will but I can't say for sure.

Everything yall do with testing batteries and all that... can't say what brands have been good?

Not asking for ifixit to get an a51 battery and test it just for me.. just asking about brands that have been found to be good or at least pretty good for other phones

by

We test batteries that we will sell. So if they're not something that we will back, I'd never hear about it because if my specific job at iFixit. As far as battery brands we do trust, I'd say OEM or anything we have in stock. :)

@amber Well answered (thumbsup) :)

Unless you buy an OEM screen+frame for Samsung phones, you're forced to buy a $200+ display; it's a racket at best, extortion at worst, and a rigged replacement in reality.

The best place is not to buy a brand new clone; the best way is to buy a deeply discounted NEW OEM DISPLAY that failed functional testing (if you don't mind a minor failure); or if you do not want to do the display, find one that includes the battery (but has a significant failure that makes it unusable like a cracked panel) and steal the battery from that; it's tedious and more work, but it guarantees a real Samsung battery, without the extortion of the screen. iFixit can't sell these pulled batteries due to the Samsung partnership and is basically required to sell you both as a pair as a part of the deal (>_<, I'd rather parts be harder to get if I don't need to pay an arm and a leg for a screen I do not need), so I do not buy Samsung phones personally. My frustration on this is with Samsung, not iFixit -- that display+battery only thing is a racket in disguise. Not sorry.

I called it quits on Samsung when they took my right to bootloader unlock the QCA USA Unlocked phones (read: NEVER CARRIER LOCKED) because they don't want to spin a "permalock" board for the carriers, and a "unlockable" board for retail unlock phones (or at least, give the unlocked phones to same board but let me freaking OEM fastboot it). I will not buy a Samsung out of principle; I decide if I want to bootloader unlock my device and put 3rd party ROMs on it, NOT THE OEM! Google lets me have my bootloader unlock, but I lose the SD card slot; oh well, I'll deal with it.

The question is about battery, not the screen :P

by

@robertf92718 Yeah. just giving you a cheat code on the level of the Konami code to get a battery ;).

I wouldn't even know where to look for this mystical A51 screen+battery with a failed whatever test at the factory screen. Especially considering the phone is a 2020 model (3 years old now), and a midrange phone.

My note8 and note10+ did jus fine with battery purchased from ifixit, and I'm pretty sure neither were official samsung batteries. Note8 is actually sittin on the table, on, right now. 10+ went for $490 off the s23u - which only happened because the n10+ absolutely wouldn't work with visible's new $25/mo plan lol
