Schematics, Boardview, Diagnosis&Repair Documentation and BIOS Utility

I would like to ask if EU will soon create & release a law that will force the manufacturers of electronic products to make the schematics, boardview and detailed manual/documentation[PDF File] in diagnosis/troubleshooting & repair of motherboard/mainboard, daughterboard or I/O Board and other components as well readily accessible in their respective websites for public viewing & utilization. I would also like to know if EU can force the laptop manufacturers to create a BIOS/Firmware Utility program that can repair[reflash] faulty or corrupted BIOS/Firmware just in case the device cannot enter into the BIOS.

@carlojosel47973 that would be an incredible step toward the right-to-repair. Do you have a link to this proposed law so we can check it out?

As a non-European, I am only aware of the two proposals made by the EU. In 2021 the Designing mobile phones and tablets to be sustainable – ecodesign on here and in 2023 the Proposal for a Directive on common rules promoting the repair of goods on here.

Also a nice step in the right direction, it is still far from releasing the information you mentioned, which would be awesome. If the EU is now signing these proposal into Law, and if those are what you are referring to, read the statement by the European Right to Repair coalition of what is lacking. ******

Don't get me wrong, I really hope that this will happen. We need to have access to those files to repair what we own. Do I think that they will release the firmware for their BIOS etc? Nope, I highly doubt it! I believe that they will continue to dance around it citing all kinds of intellectual property laws and copyright laws and whatever else their horde of attorneys can come up with.

That is why we need to continue to fight the good fight. We need to continue to support organizations like https://repair.eu/ and https://www.repair.org/stand-up who take our fight to the highest levels.

I have recently read this article about right to repair from Techspot and I want to build upon from it. What I also want is to be able to reflash the faulty or corrupted BIOS of Laptops in case I cannot access the BIOS Menu just like HP's BIOS Update Utility.

@carlojosel47973 I totally understand that. For now you will have to do what we all do. Either buy a programmed BIOS IC or find a clean dump file for your specific computer and use that to program your BIOS.
