Why disassembling so much for replacing Ring-Switch?

I followed the guide installing-iPhone-3G-Vibrate-Ring-Switch but did not remove the battery as suggested (as it was stuck really hard).

I had no problem replacing the switch with the battery still in the phone. I just wonder why it was recommended that it should be removed? The battery seems stuck with glue and there is a risk you break something when trying to remove it.

If you keep the battery in, you risk shorting something if by accident you short something on the logic board.

This is a precaution in all guides, I personally don't do it however for simple fixes like replacing the HDD or RAM in MacBooks.

Maybe this should be noted?

How do you replace the HDD or RAM in a MacBook without removing the battery cover?

by

I mean, battery.

by

I meant disconnecting it in a MacBook Pro unibody where the removal of the battery is not necessary to get to the HDD or RAM.

by

That is understandable but when you already removed the "logic board" in the iPhone I wonder what there is that might get short circuited?

Other components could get damaged, its just a precaution, like if you are working around a socket, you don't want it to be live or you want to make sure you are wearing gloves.

Ok thanks - that is probably the best way but thinking of how hard the battery is fixed I would still do it in the same way not removing it. I tried to remove the battery but I realized I would damage it if trying more.
