Is there any way to add a notification LED to an iPhone?

I want to add a BlackBerry style LED to my iPhone to alert me of missed calls, new messages, etc. This LED could go behind the Apple logo or Home button, wherever. Any ideas?

I don't think this would work based on the hardware and api's.

fulf ACK - there is no way to build something like that into a "closed system" (like IOS)
