iFixit app for Android, can we sideload download the APK

I just noticed that iFixit now has apps for iOS, Android and WebOS. GREAT IDEA!! The only problem is that those of us who own Kindle Fires or Barnes and Noble Nooks have no access to the app. It would be great if you could get your app into the Kindle and B+N marketplaces. But until then, is there any place where we can download the APK for the Android app so we can sideload it onto our devices?

the minimum android version is 3.2 - thats why most devices aren't able to download the app.

@ifixit

why this high version number? - that excludes the most android devices

eclair or froyo would be a good start but a late honeycomb is simply to "high" for "the masses"

my x10i has gingerbread installed and that's it.....

Markus is right - the minimum Android version for the iFixit app is set to 3.2 so your Kindle fire cannot run it since it is on Android 2.3.

Tim and I originally intended for the app to be released on tablets only. Since Android 3.0-3.2 is targeted specifically to tablets we thought that would be a great version to release it on. Unfortunately devices like the Kindle Fire are certainly tablets but are only running Android 2.3. We have plans to polish the app and release it for a lower version of Android in the next few months.

Android *3.2*? Man, I'm behind the times.. ;-)

Thanks for the answers. Guess I'll have to rely on my iPhone. (And if that's the device I need to repair... well, it's a good thing I have lots of room on my desk where I keep the computer :) )

Once we get the app working on the Fire, we'll add it to the Amazon marketplace.

Don't worry dburr, as a fellow Kindle Fire user I will make sure to bug Marc about this at work every day from now on.

Speaking of which... hey Marc! How's the Android 2.3 version of the app coming?

Day 1 of bugging Marc. He laughed and walked away. I may have to engage the use of my Nerf arsenal.

"nerf arsenal" sounds good/annoying ;-)
