Is there a list of Available Screw Guides?

Love the site, saved my butt more than once with several iBooks and PowerBooks.

Is there a list of Screw Guides that accompany Repair Manuals? (or better, which one DON'T). They are the best, and you spoiled me - they were lifesavers for my first 2 laptop repairs. I thought they were available with all of your Magic Manuals, so didn't worry when I had to relocate a work-in-progress quickly. I tossed the screws in a box, figuring the Screw Guide and a micrometer would sort them quickly, only to find out there was no Screw Guide for that model. The leftover and guessed-at screws likely doomed that PowerBook to an early death.

That list of Screw Guides - and a Search Box - and you'd be in my top 5 forever favorites websites.

We only have screw guides for the first 14 or so laptops we wrote repair manuals for— the early G3 and G4 PowerBook / iBook models.

  • PowerBook G4 Aluminum 12"
  • PowerBook G4 Aluminum 15"
  • PowerBook G4 Aluminum 17"
  • iBook G3 Clamshell
  • iBook G3 12"
  • iBook G3 14"
  • iBook G4 12"
  • iBook G4 14"
  • PowerBook G3 WallStreet
  • PowerBook G3 Lombard
  • PowerBook G3 Pismo
  • PowerBook G4 Titanium Mercury
  • PowerBook G4 Titanium Onyx
  • PowerBook G4 Titanium DVI
  • Mac Mini PowerPC

They are a really useful tool, but we found them a little too time consuming to continue to produce for every new model. However, we'll be adding a new feature soon that will allow you to upload PDFs to attach to repair manuals. If people are willing to spend the time, we'd love to start seeing community produced screw guides. When the time comes, I'll post our screw guide template.

That feature is complete, so anyone is welcome to make a custom screw sheet and add it to guides!

For future repairs - i always organize the screws in ice cube makers or similar. Saves a lot of trouble, especially when the machine sits on the shelf for a couple of weeks waiting for spares.

A quick tip

1 put screws in the daily medication little box that you can buy at dollar shop

2 use masking tape and stick it on the box with info written on it

3 use a pencil to mark # at same size screws positions/locations and do the same on masking tape on the box.

you will now have a good set up for the screws not getting lost and will know where they go
