Can we edit device labels/identifiers?

just editing a few questions to provide the right device for the question, and there is a whole list of items that are semi-related to the device but which are displaying first or clogging up the system. Is it possible to remove useless listings? For example if I type in iphone then it comes up with iphone 3g troubleshooting, iphone 3g backcover, iphone 3gs 32gb white.

The other area that is a bit tricky is the mac identifier. People use EMC numbers or just say 2010 iMac, but there is a bit of a range and most often the guys answering these questions want the last 3 digits of the serial number for accuracy. Can we adopt a uniform policy? (TBH I had a nightmare identifying my own iBook using your yes and no thingy)

You're welcome to edit and improve the tags on our questions. For example, if you search for questions tagged with "iphone" you'll see lots of results, including 37 questions tagged "iphone4" instead of "iPhone 4".

Note: We're currently working through a bug where the number 37 shown there doesn't match the 25 questions listed here if you click on said tag.

You're welcome to fix up some of these by hand, but I'd recommend leaving most of the existing ones as they are, only because it would take a very long time to fix by hand. We'll likely programmatically fix up some of the existing bad ones at some point. For newly posted questions though, it would certainly be helpful to fix bad tags as you find them.

not tags. it's the "devices" people can choose. I think this is why there is a big delay in finding a device and us being able to give the correct information. you can see people are putting information that is a duplicate in the subject field instead as they can't select the correct device (or find it easily??) the first choice for many people is not what they are looking for. Also when you click on the device drop down it scrolls back to the top as soon as you release your mouse/page down...so the asker is automatically being directed back to a wrong choice.(well it is for me...)

My answer stands for editing the device on users' questions, as well as the tags applied. Anything that helps to make the question more clear, while preserving the original intention is good in my book. I'm not sure what's going on with your device drop down scrolling back to the top - I haven't seen that happen before. Could you give me more detailed steps to reproduce that? My statement about removing bad tags also applies for bad devices. We'll likely need to do some cleanup of our device list just like our tags list, to get rid of lots of the unhelpful duplicates.
