Would it better users to learn how to use tools we suggest?

I noticed we often ask or suggest people to bring out the multimeter and well I'll be honest it took me until I bought some electronics books to learn about this kind of stuff. There's one book that I almost use as a bible and was just wondering if it would almost boost the success rate of people trying to fix their electronics if there was a tutorial on how to use such devices and what the readings mean.

Gary, that sounds like it's right up your alley :-) How about making a couple of guides? I think it is a great idea. Starting with caps, diodes, resistors and transistors would be cool, especially the SMD components. Lets do it....

I'm totally down, just gotta get back from this deployment where I can get the supplies I need haha

Okay, you are excused:-) I like your idea, and may be I should start to go ahead with a few of those, but only till you get to a more accessible place :-)

Definitely by all means, anything to make life easier on the users for this site

This sounds like a great idea! New Skills can be added inside of the Skills Category. If you need to create a new one like Soldering, you can do so here by choosing Device, and giving it a name. Once it's created, I can organize it for you and put it into the hierarchy so that it shows up correctly under Skills.

Right on! I'll definitely get started once I'm back in the states kind of excited to mess around with gear as I tend to drool for new gadgets haha

While I'm excited about this new skills category, it's rather empty at the moment. Most skills/tools have tutorials readily available online- so if you suggest someone must do something like soldering, wire stripping, or anything they might be unfamiliar with, you can generally find a good youtube link or similar, so I'd suggest linking that as well if the OP appears to be a n00b or simply lacking the skill.
