Kyle weighs in on the non-upgradeable Retina MacBook.

We offered some commentary in our teardown yesterday, but today Kyle has published some further analysis:

Just read this, excellent article Kyle! I wish you had a larger pulpit- the tide is against us, unfortunately.

How about perhaps doing teardowns of comparable hardware and rating them, I think this might help getting the message out? If people see their options are getting a MacBook Air with 2/10 repair rating, or XYZ Ultrabook with better specs for same price, but 6/10 repair rating- might that not help?

Also I think it's great to just show what different manufacturers are doing in order to facilitate repair- for example the HP Z1 receiving a 10/10, for that amazing and innovative design (if I'm in the market for a desktop soon, and opt to get an all-in-one instead of building a tower, the Z1 has 10 very compelling reasons out of 10 to earn my purchase).

We also published it on wired, and it's on the front page right now. So hopefully that's a bigger pulpet!

Yeah that's nice, my point though was that still is just in like the geeky community and stuff- this stuff needs to get mainstream, out of the subculture and into society as a whole.
