A possible solution to the FAQ problem.

A lot of people want an FAQ. For the moment, you may edit [redacted] to add FAQs. Make sure you keep the formatting consistent and the titles brief. I'm not married to any of the two example questions I linked, either, so if there are better versions of those questions, feel free to link them.

Now that that's out of the way, a more long-lasting FAQ solution is in order. Editing a wiki page won't work forever. Eventually, there will just be too many FAQs. We want to make it so that moderators can mark a question as a duplicate of another question. Then, those duplicates should only appear as one question in all answers list. Once we get questions marked this way, auto-generating an FAQ should be very simple.

Do you have any thoughts on this?

Update

No more wiki page. Definitely the way to use an FAQ is to link frequently asked questions from the relevant device's wiki page. That way, people can find them, even if all they know is their device.

Any chance we can make this a sticky or something where it's easily linked for people to see? Otherwise it's only useful as a reference.

Good temporary solution though.

There probably won't be any change to the main answers page to reflect this for a while if at all. People who are in the know can use it for a while, but since marking things as duplicates will be the real solution, I'd like to not spend too much time integrating this FAQ.

okay sounds good

Since when is a FAQ for "people in the know"? I thought a FAQ was for people "out of the know". Why make/have a hidden FAQ?

Okay, good point. Secret FAQ is out, FAQ on device pages is in.
