Ability to Duplicate a Guide

Can iFixit add the Ability to Duplicate a Guide so we don't need to repeat some steps over and over since its the same. We only have to edit some parts.

ex.

Guide 1 - replacing a lense

Guide 2 - replacing a button

both their step 1-3 are the same.

Hi trickster, we actually have a feature built in to handle this situation without duplicating guides.

Guide prerequisites allow you to reuse all of the steps from one or more guides as the initial steps to your new guide.

Our wiki on prerequisites will explain it better, but feel ask again here if you have any questions on how to use them.

Right question, tangential answer. Prerequisite procedures presume reassembly is the reverse. So if there are extra steps like applying sealant or locktite then prerequisites don't work. And to split a procedure into prerequisites you would first want to duplicate it. Which brings us back to the question, how does one duplicate a guide?

Hi @student4life, this is a really great string of questions and I've been poking around today to figure out some answers for you. I'll chat with some folks who where out of the office this week and will be back early next week. I'll get back to you as soon as I can!

@student4life , thank you for your patience with this. We have quite a bit going on around here. There is a guide duplicator tool, but only admins can access it. When we need to add extra reassembly information, we use the reminder bullet. Here is an example
