July 19th, 2010 Release Notes

Hey there ladies and gentlemen. I'm going to try and start putting release notes of meta when we push new code live. These posts will probably not have everything that changed on the site (we make hundreds of performance and UI tweaks all the time that are beyond your level of care) but I'll try to cover all of the big stuff.

Anyway, In the last two weeks, this is what has changed:

  • The UI for creating new guides and publishing guides changed slightly.
  • We tracked down and fixed some IE6 and Opera bugs.
  • We made the graph on Users profile pages a little more useful and pretty, although now it only shows the last 365 days. Previously, we were using Google's Chart API to generate the graphs, but mayer recently reached the point where he had done so much on the site that it broke their API, so we switched to highcharts.js, which we hope will be able to deal with our users activity time-lines for a while.
  • Some users were seeing the wrong avatar when they came over from iFixit.com on meta.iFixit.com. While we currently can't bring your avatar with you, we made sure you don't get the wrong avatar either. This is not a retroactive fix, so you'll need to change your avatar if you got the wrong one in the past.
  • On device pages, and other places throughout the site, we changed the count of answers, to the count of solutions. This allows us to see the number of questions asked that have been answered, instead of just the number of questions asked.

Anyway, I hope that brings some light onto the world of iFixit. If you see anything broken or something I forgot to bring attention to, leave a note here or create a new post in Meta.

Thanks,

/Nat
