iPad LTE have a "Teardown" and not disassembly

Silly me, I had an iPad Air LTE and found a "guide" that turned out to be a "teardown" and had NO INSTRUCTIONS on how to take it apart!

I went into the Wi-Fi side AFTER THE FACT, to see what I did wrong. It would have been nice to see that set of instructions for BOTH units!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I'm confused here, there are two different guide areas: iPad Air Repair. One for the WiFi only model and one for the LTE/WiFi model. What was the area you had a problem with?

If you go to the iPad Air LTE, Ii takes you to a 'Teardown.' It LOOKS LIKE a "replacement guide," a poor one to be sure, so I got half way through opening it up following this "teardown guide" before I realized it was woefully inadequate in the actual "How To" on opening it up! When I went to the "Wi-Fi" side, THERE was the directions I needed to actually open it up. Why the !&&* wasn't that on the LTE side? Most of the instructions apply to both? BTW Had I seen the same instructions on the LTE side, I would have ordered a couple of your 'iOpeners'

OK, I see the confusion now. The terms the IFIXIT group uses Teardown and Guide have different meanings. And, yes the LTE/WiFi one is only a teardown not a true guide to work off of to fix your unit. But in some cases it will be the only document as the similarities between the units may be slight or in this case the time points of the creation and what was used for the deeper guides was different.

You are correct. We frequently write teardowns first, then repair manuals once we have spent more time to understand the complete process. That is why teardowns have a prominent notice at the top:

"Teardowns provide a look inside a device and should not be used as disassembly instructions."

We are working on a complete repair manual for the iPad Air — it's just not quite done yet.
