When I crop pictures for guides, Required to crop in landscape.

http://grab.by/68S0 It forces me to crop at a 4:3 aspect ratio. Why can't it be a 3:4? As a result, parts of the picture which are integral are cut out.

With that photo, the easiest thing to do is to rotate it first—then it will be 4:3. We don't have a rotate feature yet, but we should! It's been on the backburner for a while.

In general, you should always take photos in landscape mode.

The lack of rotate often adds a lot of time to creating a guide. One reason is iFixit respect the EXIF rotate flag, which in some cases makes the rotation of the image come in unpredictably.
