Can we please have the ability to edit comments

All too often being human (at least I think I am) we sometimes don't see an error in a comment until we post it. This means we can leave a shoddy comment--delete and redo it or make an additional comment explaining the first. I hate the first idea and by the time you see your mistake someone may have posted referencing your post. Redoing at that point would create confusion because the post would be out of sequence. The last possibility leads to lenghty post which can be confusing in their own way.

All would be cured if we could edit our comments. Please make this possible for both Answers and Meta.

+ That would be great. Also a spelling checker. I can't tell you how many times I've changed Majestys' "wether" to whether ;-) Spelling on this site has to be on a 3rd grade level. Its so bad that, on occasions, I won't even answer a question because it's so offensive.

I've been around awhile and I admit to keeping a dictionary by the computer and using it more often than I should.

by

I'm to lazy to do that and just keep another browser open and paste a Google search in on a questionable word.

by

Most internet browsers have spell check built-in, so spelling mistakes can be chalked up as user error (they would be anyway). I also wish we had the ability to edit our comments. I'm thinking the reason it's not yet here isn't a lack of demand, but that comments are a completely different beast than everything else. As usual, I'm sure someone who knows more about the site will chime in later.

All modern browsers (IE8+, Firefox 2+, Safari 4+, and Opera 9+) have spell check built in. It's not something we will be ever implementing. And hey, newspapers aim their writing at 5th graders, so we're getting there :p

I'm pretty sure the lack of editing is due to laziness / priorities. We have a long list of features that users have requested, and we weigh the amount of time to implement versus the amount of happiness it will give to our user base. This sounds like we just never got around to it, because it seems everyone in the office wants it, and it not being there is definitely a P.I.T.A.

So ya, I'm on it. It should be live in the next few weeks.
