Release Notes: March 1st, 2016

Features

  • Added the ability to leave comments on Stories and redesigned comments across the site.
  • Added the ability to sort information on the User Activity page based on certain filters, including Votes, Comments, and Moderation.

  • Members now receive an in-page notification after earning a badge.
  • Improved the style of all sliders across the site.
  • Launched a new online customer support portal: http://help.ifixit.com/. Contacting iFixit will now be done through this site. All customer contact and order support inquiries should go to help.ifixit.com.

  • Rewrote several of our more time-consuming queries in order to improve site performance.
  • Replaced the Users page with the Leaderboard page, which ranks users based on the badges that they have received.

Bugs

  • Fixed a bug that was stopping earned badges from displaying on the User's profile page.
  • Updated all buttons on the site to be rectangular, rather than pill shaped.
  • Fixed several badge pages that were not being displayed.
  • Fixed a bug where a second search bar was appearing on the mobile view of the Teams page and overlapping the "New Teams" button.
  • Fixed a bug in which some comments left on the Answers page were being displayed in a smaller font than the rest.
  • Emails sent in reference to a question that contained a video were display a broken link to that video. We fixed the link.
  • Modified the intensity of several colors across the site that were reducing visibility.
  • Improved scrolling on mobile devices on the Answers page.
  • Fixed several minor bugs on the Edit Guide page by repositioning the sidebar.
  • Fixed a bug in which the number of products shipped on a particular day was being miscalculated.
  • Fixed the horizontal alignment of the iFixit Pro button on tablets.

There is a bug in the "Guides link" on the Added the ability to sort information on the User Activity page based on certain filters, including Votes, Comments, and Moderation. It pulls up the Don't worry. We got this. page

That bug appears to be unique to your profile page. Doh! We're working on a fix.

Can we put some effort into improving iPad (iOS) use?

  • Text box entry can be tricky as the box can't be stretched!
  • Insert, copy & paste is sometimes tough as the entry point or the selection of text doesn't always go where you want it.
  • Can we do a drag and drop to paste a URL link Vs copy and paste? Same with picture and text files.

After you mentioned it a while back, we spent a bunch of time looking into the text box situation. It appears that the inability to resize text areas is specific to Safari on iOS, and there's no way to override it. Crazy! I'm still looking for a way around this.

I'll take a look at your other two suggestions. Do you have an example of a site that supports drag and drop URLs?

The issue is trying to load in an image file as well as pasting it from the image/file palate into the Question or Answer. You just can't do it within iOS.

I don't know if it's possible to copy / paste into a textarea on iOS, but there's another way to get an image onto an answer. Save the image to your photo library, then hit the image link on the Answers toolbar and 'Add media'. Then you can upload the image from your device. There are more steps than I'd like, but it works.

I'll keep looking for faster ways to do this.
