Just wondering if we need deal with them

I was wondering if we need deal with the student questions . Do they want interaction or are we just wasting time on them and if so is there some way of recognizing them as student without looking up whose who on there profile.

E.g https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/3007...

I dont mind answering the question if it helps the student out in any way but I do hate to waste time if its not necessary or helpful. Some sort of id would be nice to know to skip them if its at all possible. Maybe you could make there icon there school logo or something

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hello Jimfixer,

That's a great question. There isn't exactly a simple answer. Students are seeding questions and answers as part of their project. The whole point is to start the conversation around repairing that device and help users find answers to frequently asked questions. It also gives students the experience of working with a real, online community. So from that perspective, engagement is great. Helping students think of problems and solutions in different ways (helping them to really think about what content they should be creating and how to help real people), and at the same time guiding users who have the same problem, provides a lot of support to the community.

However, as students, they are still learning. Sometimes they don't always post the best (or even useful) questions or answers. We are monitoring this, but are often a day or two behind when they post them. So if you see an off-base question, you can leave it to us to handle (if you don't want to guide them yourself) and move on to a user's question.

The most important thing is to be polite and encouraging to our students. They are still learning. They are also working hard and becoming members of our community. We're helping teach the next generation of fixers, and we need to keep reminding them that they are an important part of fixing the world.

@jimfixer I just treat those the same way as anyone else. After all, the students are going to need some real world experiences. Most are friendly and thankful for the interaction, some are a bit more PITA. So I'd continue to go ahead and answer those questions just like you would any other question.
