6 Request for knock off adapter
Hard drives are starting to fail a lot on the iMac 2009-2011 machines. I am now using about three a week of the Thermal in-line temperature sensors like this:

They may be the same.
Without the sensors you get run away fan issues. Most of the guides do not mention this problem and most of the answers talk about SMC fan control but that is not really a viable solution as it's not turning the fan up or down when needed.
OWC is the only one I know selling them and they are charging $40.00 bucks a pop, tax and shipping, so they end up costing $50 each. I would not mind buying a knockoff supplied by iFixit at a better price or priced better in lots of 3 or 5 each. This thing looks like it could be made for $5-$6.
Would this be of interest to other shops?
I know you have contacts for tools but what about something like this? If nothing else it would also sell on eBay at a competitive price. You might consider opening your sales to eBay on parts and tools. Even powerbook medic sells parts on eBay under the name wallachee. http://www.ebay.com/usr/wallachee
I understand this would probably require you to hire someone just to handle this added business, But PBM has made 45,596 sales on eBay.

Last I knew these cables were actually manufactured by OWC, and a completely custom option for those iMacs that OWC developed in house. I don't know if it's even possible for a 'knock off' version without taking the time to develop our own.

The circuit looks quite simple. They use the same design for both series.The only difference is an added cable to the mate up with the logic board thermal sensor port for the 2009 - 2010 model.
The other option is seeing if you can do a deal with OWC.
