Full HP IQ506 battery replacement guide done

If anyone remembers, I initially did a quick and dirty guide on the process since the battery was at 2.76V, which is when I change it as a precautionary measure. That guide can be foundhere if anyone cares to see it.

The full teardown guide can be found here on how to change this CMOS battery.

Yes, it was a quick guide to make for me. I'm familiar with this system very well. I only did the full disassembly guide because I had to investigate a boot issue which I was able to quickly fix. Being a quick guide, I expect there to be some details I could have added but didn't add yet. I'm going to start working on that and getting it a little better but for now, here's the full guide.

Any thoughts on it? I'm going to try and get some content out on this system before I retire it because of the extended problem list I have mentioned before to give owners of these systems that are in better shape a chance to keep them around a little longer then my systems were ever going to be around.

Hey Nick! Both guides look pretty solid to me; I don't have the system here, but it was easy enough to follow along what you were doing. Nicely done!

If you're looking for feedback, I would merely suggest composing future photos the way you did here (step 10 of the quick-and-dirty guide):

I think having your hands/tools in the photo to actively demonstrate the instructions like that gives the guide a huge boost. When we're writing guides at iFixit, we try to do exactly what you did there on pretty much every shot. (Of course, we always have a second person available to operate the camera, so take that scrap of advice for whatever it's worth! You can always try using a tripod + delay timer setting if working alone.)

Cheers and keep up the great work!

I have to take it apart to remove the GPU for motherboard failure diagnostics one of these days (it's dead AFAIK and I know how to do the dGPU->iGPU switch; it locks before it can go into high level mode) so I'll see what I can do about that. I understandably get tired of working on it because of the amount of screws these gen one AIO's seem to have. They are modular compared to the new ones, but the screw count is a nightmare.

@jeffsu Where do you feel I could do better on pictures? I'm going to take some improved pictures while I do the GPU guide. I already need new pictures to outline the GPU removal and cable relocation since I am doing it as a test removal, and a potential permanent removal.

It's hard to fault your pictures—they generally look pretty solid. I just pointed that particular pic out because having your hand in the shot like that really communicates what you want me to do, and also adds a sense of scale that can be helpful when looking at a lot of these interior parts for the first time. If you wanted to do something similar on shots like this or this, I think it would help put your guide over the top. Cheers!

I can tell you now that the no disassembly guide needed that to be extra clear to show what you were going up against. I dropped the battery in the first time I tried it. Not a fun thing to correct once it falls in. I am making the guides I can make with the pictures from previous guides to save steps I need to take pictures of since they are already there.
