It may have been archived because we have other, better guides for similar fans. But those guides' procedures are somewhat different, and they are written for specific models rather than for a generic floor fan. In short, I agree that it's pretty confusing!
These days whenever I archive a guide, I include a link in the introduction directing readers to the guide I think they should use instead (here is one example). It's especially important to do this now that the new guide view hides the "Archived" flag from view, because otherwise readers are apt to start the guide without realizing there's a better alternative.
Incidentally, we've used the "Archived" flag somewhat inconsistently in the past. It was sometimes used to mean, "This guide isn't at all up to scratch, and you shouldn't use it—but we don't want to delete this person's work, so we're just going to sweep it to the bottom of the device page where you'll probably never notice it." Eventually we all agreed that was bad policy, and we stopped doing it and clarified the flag's description. But, there are probably still a few guides in the mix that were flagged incorrectly back in the day and need to be fixed.
In this case there's no perfect solution, but I think it may be best to just un-archive the guide.

That's a good point, maybe @brittany can look into what's actually going on here.
