In reply to [manufacturer] Laptop Service Center posts.

I've been lurking on the meta for a while, but I feel like it's time to contribute.

These two accounts with almost identical names were created.

https://www.ifixit.com/User/2007883/Dell...

https://www.ifixit.com/User/2016627/Leno...

Only one refers to a business website on their profile.

They both posted asinine questions about basic computer repair, despite the dell site trying desperately to seem like a high quality repair business.

If they can't fix a boot loop then how the &&^& can anyone expect them to fix anything else, and pay for the privilege.

I have absolutely no intention of reporting an independent business for advertising their site on here, $@$*, most of you that will read this fall under that.

Maybe I'm bais but when I read "call centre" "computer repair" "India", sirens start going off for me.

As far as I'm concerned these posts are made to attract people to their profile then to their website where they would charge for advice we give for free.

I think that despite this not being against the rules, it certainly is against the ifixit ethos "The free repair guide for everything, written by everyone." which I respect greatly.

I understand whatever stance that is taken with these, but as far as I'm concerned they're no different from bots posting premium phone numbers in questions.

As an addition, I think there should be a way to report a profile.

@thethirdtwin taken care off and you done this "I think there should be a way to report a profile" the right way! thanks for keeping it clean. " no intention of reporting an independent business for advertising their site on here," sort of agreed. We need to let the person who does it, know that they need to keep their advertising on their profile. It is okay to refer to ones profile on Answers.....

Yeah, I understand there's a time and a place to plug your own interests, but if it's the main substance of your contributing then you might as well take out a google ad, seems like it would be easier that way.

Thanks for having a look into the above posts and profiles.

@sam @evan would you mind looking at those two characters and see if they need to permanently disappear? thank you.

Sorry for the delay! They should be gone now.
