I normally don't care but...I worked hard for my Master Tech Cert

https://www.ifixit.com/Team/About/21339/...

But now there is a group of people who decided they are the "real" master techs? Its honestly a slap in the face to those of us who have the actual Cert.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Alright, I'm sorry everyone. The whole ordeal was my fault, I even had second thoughts when I named it that. Sorry @joshw if I offended you, I apologize. I'll have that name changed as soon as @theimedic comes on next.

@mayer Just barely 14 ;-)

It's just a team name. The original term and team "Master Techs", was created when the idea of teams came up. Ralph rj713 and I created. It was meant to be for actual Mac Masters. That's when the site was primarily focused on providing technical information for Mac repair. This is mainly because the site is sponsored by iFixit who is a Mac parts provider. While I was in the hospital getting a triple bypass, people kept asking to join. Kindhearted Ralph opened it up to everyone, so the name became just a moniker."much ado about nothing".

I also got very ticked when I first saw the term Master Tech Certification being given out by iFixit. I believe it to be a misnomer and should be renamed Master iPhone Tech.

@kaykay

But they didn't ask me.

But it applies to more than just iPhones!

And we thought that it might the first in a series of certifications. So far, we've just got the phone one. :-)

@pccheese Then name it Master Mobil Phone tech. Now I need to go take more blood pressure medication.

@mayer @pccheese @kyle @joshw @sam @kelsea sounds like everybody is ready to chill out with a drink and some BBQ. I'll meet you all on Saturday at The Luxury in San Antonio ...

There's definitely overlap with the name of the certification. The reason for that is that the original Master Techs group was one of the inspirations for the name of the certification. And since they predated the cert, we didn't feel like we could take their name away!

With this group, the 'For the actual master techs' tagline looks like a playful poke at some of our greybeards.

We should definitely work on getting everyone certified!

@kyle. We have sales reps in 18 states who would be happy to promote the cert. Last I knew we had over 2,000 privately owned cell phone stores as customers.

I know you have my email...shoot me a line if you're interested.

IRobot killer, I created that team because the old one was full of users without any actual experience on the site. As you can see only select users have joined. There is no association with the master tech certificate, except that we'll work hard to get one.

So please explain how you can be a "real" master tech and not have the cert from the website you are claiming to be a "real" master tech on?

by

I'm not claiming anything. I'm just using that as an expression to separate us from the old master techs. Like I said, we do not have any association with the MasterTech certification.

@theimedic political matters.

by

So you clearly stated that?

I seriously think the group should be renamed. Its a flat out slap in the face to those of use who are REAL Master Techs.

by

and PS: No, rice will not fix a water damaged phone Mr "real" master tech.

by

Mmm Hmm. Well, just because we don't all have a certificate does not mean we're not worthy of it! @theimedic is one of the greatest techs ifixit has ever seen, and he has joined the team! He even has the cert.
